An artist used a stroller and “sex noises” to prank the Metropolitan Museum of Art in protest against the “absurdity” of the Met Gala.
On Sunday, artist David Sabastian and an accomplice entered the Upper East Side institution with a crayon drawing depicting Vogue’s famed annual event and a Bluetooth speaker hidden in the baby carriage.
According to a video of the antics, when they reached their target area, his pal began loudly playing recorded “sex noises” from the speaker to distract security, who — right according to plan — rushed to investigate the raunchy stroller.
While the staff was busy with the X-rated recording, Sabastian hung his piece “The Met 2028” on an empty spot in the hallowed halls of the museum.
Sabastian’s prank masterpiece shows celebrities ascending the famous Met staircase, familiar to millions from the gala’s coverage, with citizens clashing with riot police on the other side of crowd-control barriers.
“A-list celebrities prancing while the world outside the museum gates is collapsing,” he said.
The point of the piece is to illustrate the “absurdity of it all,” he said. And to cap it off, he created the piece using crayons “to make it extra ridiculous.”
The piece was still hanging in the museum as of 11 a.m. on Monday, we’re told.
He posted video showing security checking out the piece after he hung it on the wall. “The Met Museum is a great platform to bring attention and awareness to the world,” he told Page Six.
He plans to follow his Met stunt with installations in multiple cities. “I’m like Banksy, but bald,” he said.
Unlike the pseudonymous artist, who has never confirmed his identity, “I’m not Batman. I want you to see me,” Sabastian said.
A spokesperson for the museum did not comment.
