The Running Man director Edgar Wright has finally opened up about his long-awaited Baby Driver 2 movie, which has been in development since 2019. During its theatrical run, the 2017 movie garnered a Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 394 reviews.

What Baby Driver 2 isn’t happening soon?

During a recent interview with The Playlist, Wright confirmed that he had already written the script for Baby Driver 2. However, it seems like there’s still a long way to go before the sequel can move into production.

“There is a script for Baby Driver 2. That is something that actually exists,” Wright said. “But most filmmaking depends on factors beyond you—timing, financing, who’s available. You’re not always completely in control of those things.”

In addition, the acclaimed filmmaker also revealed that before he decides what project he wants to do next, Wright intends to take a break first. He even joked that he would just “sleep for the rest of the year” after the theatrical debut of The Running Man.

Baby Driver was written and directed by Wright, who won the Audience Award for Best Director when it was first screened at the 2017 SXSW Festival. The movie starred Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Jon Bernthal, Eiza González, and Jamie Foxx. For his performance as the titular star, Elgort received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor – Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy).
