Mom life has had a lasting impact on Brenda Song.
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody alum—who shares sons Dakota, 3, and Carson, 2, with fiancé Macaulay Culkin—admitted that since becoming a parent, she’s reflected on her career in Hollywood and where she fits into its ever-changing landscape.
“Once I stepped into motherhood, it made me question a lot,” Brenda, 36, told Bustle in an interview published Jan. 7. “My place in this industry, my place as a woman, ageism in this industry, society’s pressures of what beauty is, what being young is. Things that I’d never questioned before.”
The Last Showgirl star added that her family obligations made her consider the kinds of roles she could pursue.
“My priority is my children,” she emphasized, “so I can’t just uproot my life and go live in Bulgaria for nine months to shoot a movie. I was like, ‘Does acting still fit in my life?’”
Fortunately for Brenda’s fans, the Disney Channel icon is finding her work-life balance. She’s set to star opposite Kate Hudson in Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Netflix basketball comedy, Running Point, and hopes to take on other roles that challenge her abilities.
“As I’ve gotten older, I feel like the opportunities and the work that I’m doing is starting to reflect where I’m at and where I’m allowing myself to go,” Brenda continued. “I’m hoping that it just continually progresses. I don’t know where my limitations are and I hope I get the opportunity to sort of stretch those limitations and see.”

The Social Network actress added, “I feel like I haven't done my best work yet.”
And she seems to have a supportive partner in Macaulay—whom she began dating in 2017 and got engaged to in 2022—to help make that happen.
“Brenda is a champion,” the Home Alone star told E! News in December. “And she is the best mom. She's the best boy mom. She's just the best mom. She's the best person. I wake up every day knowing I'm lucky. Not feeling I feel lucky, but I know I'm lucky.”
