A young Emirati woman named Mariam moves from childhood into adulthood across the frames of a new short film that Bvlgari has released to mark Emirati Women’s Day, tracing her journey through identity, belonging and the quiet, cumulative process of self-acceptance that the Maison has chosen as this year’s central story. Titled كل ما تتمنين The Girl I Needed, the film was developed in partnership with Emirati cultural visionary and Cinema Akil founder Butheina Kazim, marking the sixth consecutive year that Bvlgari has used storytelling to commemorate the occasion and to honor the achievements and legacy of Emirati women across the region.

The project ties into the official theme for this year’s Emirati Women’s Day, “Together, We Rise Stronger and Better,” announced by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, and intended to reflect the collective journey of Emirati women and the role they have continued to play in shaping society across generations. Bvlgari frames its own involvement around its mission to elevate life by revealing magnificent beauty, positioning the film as part of a broader commitment to honoring the heritage and stories that have shaped the region while recognizing the contributions that inspire the generations still to come.

Rather than treating empowerment as a fixed endpoint, the film approaches it as something that unfolds gradually, built out of courage, personal growth and authenticity as Mariam moves through the different stages of her life. At its center is a tribute to the women who shape us, and to the wisdom and guidance that gets carried forward through time, with the film offering what Bvlgari describes as an intimate reflection on identity, memory and belonging that invites audiences to recognize the strength, grace and collective ancestral wisdom binding Emirati women together as anchors of society and builders of generations.

The film was written and directed by Taqwa Bint Ali, whose work centers on storytelling that connects across borders through narratives rooted in human experience, exploring emotion, identity and culture in ways that resonate widely. It was produced in collaboration with Studio HARAKA, a multidisciplinary studio rooted in movement and the cultural rhythms of the Gulf, bringing a distinctive visual language and an authentic perspective to the telling of Emirati women’s stories. The creative team behind the film includes Executive Producer Butheina Kazim, Producer Osama Mutasem, Director of Photography Anas Alkassim and Lead Actress Mariam Shamma, whose combined contributions shaped its emotional depth and visual expression.
