Catherine O'Hara Joked About Her Death a Year Before Her Passing

A Catherine O’Hara joke is getting attention following the sad news of her passing on Friday (January 30).

The actress was promoting The Studio when she sat down for an interview with the Los Angeles Times, which was published in March of 2025.

During the conversation with the cast, they were asked about whether they’ve achieved more authority over time as actors.

“As actors, do you feel like you have more of a say at least, if not power?” they were asked.

“I’ve been treated that way lately,” Catherine responded. “Am I dying or something?”

Her co-stars all laughed, with Seth Rogen chiming in: “This is how we wanted to tell you. This man’s actually a doctor. This is a fake interview.”

One year before that, she spoke out about her age and her acting career in another interview.

“I’m lucky [I get] to keep doing things like this at my age — I can’t believe it,” she told Elle Canada back in the August 2024 issue.

“Over the past few years, when I’ve gotten scared or nervous, or if I start grousing about something, I’ve tried to really practice turning it around and being grateful. Like, ‘How lucky are you right now to be alive? And then to have this opportunity right here in this moment?’”

“How crazy is it that at my age, I’m wearing these clothes and I’m lying over this pool?” she added of her cover shoot for the outlet.

“I do think of age, but otherwise, I rarely look in the mirror,” she went on to explain.

“I feel that now, stories about people my age usually have to do with death and divorce and disease. So I’m really fortunate [to] have people around me who respect aging people and who give me new experiences. I’d like to think that the kind of roles I’m getting to play now are roles that people are getting to play in life.”

Many stars are paying tribute following the sad news of her death.
