As we enter the long hot days of summer, this is the moment when many people take their foot off the gas, slow down and spend time on themselves. Often it leads to periods of introspection, as we project into the future and envision what we want our life to look like. It’s for these reasons that Emirates Woman decided to call this our Harmony issue. We wanted to explore the ways women are searching for, and finding, that balance. For our cover star Malvina Cservenschi, founder and designer of the Malvensky jewellery house, harmony has come with her decision to bring the brand she founded in Romania to Dubai. In A Place Called Home she shares that she has always felt at home in the UAE, and how for over a decade she has dreamed of bringing her designs – grounded in heritage, symbolism and storytelling – to a nation that holds those things dear. French-Moroccan lawyer and gallerist Amal Rakibi is another woman who has found a compelling balance in her life. She used to keep those two passions firmly separate, but in The Art of Balance she shares how she only felt truly in tune with herself when she allowed those universes to commingle. As for Zeina Abdalla, the co-founder of Metabolic, harmony is found in being of service to others. In Knowledge Is Power she shares how women in particular never seem to make their health a priority. She is determined to change that narrative. There is also harmony to be found in gazing upon beautiful imagery, and this issue has several lush photo shoots worth lingering over. Check out It’s All About the Details, Verdant Visions and West Coast Glow. Elsewhere, a feature, Back to Your Roots explores retreats designed to bring mind, body and soul back into balance, and The Rest Revolution makes the case for rest as the deepest harmony of all. It’s important to remember that harmony does not simply mean the absence of conflict. There is also a different – and some might argue a deeper – kind of harmony. One that can emerge when disparate parts find that they were always, somehow, meant to coexist. Now that is a harmony worth finding.

Enjoy the issue.
