Gavin Leatherwood has been cast in the highly-anticipated new film It Happened One Summer.

The 32-year-old Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star is playing the ladies’ man Fox Thornton in the upcoming adaptation of Tessa Bailey‘s bestselling novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gavin is also known for his roles in The Sex Lives of College Girls, It’s What’s Inside, and My Dead Ex.

Speaking to THR about the casting, Bailey said, “It wasn’t easy to find someone with the charm and swagger of Fox Thornton, but we did it! So thrilled to have Gavin on board.”

His character is described as Brendan’s (Hoechlin) “best friend and fellow fisherman, a charismatic ladies’ man whose easy charm masks a deeper loyalty and vulnerability.”

Hutchings also sang the actor’s praises, calling him “the missing piece” needed for the movie.

Nina Dobrev and Tyler Hoechlin also star as the two romantic leads, with Virginia Gardner playing Nina’s on-screen sister. The film is directed by The Hating Game‘s Peter Hutchings.

The outlet also shared the following plot overview:

“Piper Bellinger is a glamorous L.A. It Girl whose glittering world comes crashing down after a viral mishap gets her canceled overnight. It Happened One Summer is among the most popular romances on BookTok and has sold over two million copies in the Unites States alone. It is the first installment in her Bellinger Sisters series.

Filming is currently underway in New York.
