As fans of the John Wick franchise continue to speculate about the next chapter, creator Derek Kolstad has hinted at a surprising twist. In John Wick 5, the High Table is reportedly no longer the primary antagonist, which could lead to unexpected alliances. Kolstad suggested that the story could feature John Wick joining forces with a former enemy.

Derek Kolstad, the creator behind the John Wick franchise, has opened up about the direction of John Wick: Chapter 5. In a recent conversation with ScreenRant, Kolstad explored the idea of John Wick unexpectedly teaming up with someone fans dislike.

Drawing a parallel to his experience, he referenced a memory from watching Return of the Jedi, He recalled the moment when Darth Vader unexpectedly turns on the Emperor, leaving him and other viewers in stunned disbelief.

He added, “You look at our favorite movies, [and] it’s you and me with guns on each other at the end of the first act, and [then it’s] you and me, at the beginning of the third act, back to back against the worst.” 

Kolstad expressed hope that John Wick 5 will include a similar twist. He said, “Ultimately, I hope this story goes in such a way where there’s a familiar face you were destined to hate, [and] you’re like, ‘Wait a minute. Oh, okay. It’s us versus them and them. F*** them.’” He concluded, “So that’s where the thinking goes, and I wish them nothing but love, man.”

Although Kolstad hasn’t confirmed a potential High Table team-up, it’s still a possibility. Following the massive success of the first four films, expectations for the fifth installment remain high. While Keanu Reeves will reprise his iconic role and Chad Stahelski returns as the director, many story and casting details remain a mystery.
