The 91-year-old Oscar winner first started opening up about vision loss back in 2021 and has shared updates here and there in interviews over the past few years. Last year, she sadly revealed that she can’t recognizes faces anymore.
While appearing on BBC Radio 4’s “Today” program on Thursday (October 22), Judi said that she “can’t be on stage” and “can’t do a play any more” due to eyesight.

“I can’t do a film any more. I can’t read any more,” she added.
After saying that she could not see host Emma Barnett‘s “face at all,” the Casino Royale actress revealed, “I go up to lots of the wrong people and give them an almost hug and say, ‘Oh sorry, didn’t realize.’”
“They said this summer was absolutely sensational with bluebells; I couldn’t see one,” she continued. “But I know what my trees look like, and part of it is in my memory and part of it is about hopefully what I can make out.”
However, in another recent interview with The Times from earlier this month, Judi clapped back at retirement rumors while blasting being called a “national treasure.”

“[While aging], you have to contend with people asking, ‘When are you going to retire?’ or, ‘Isn’t it about time you put your feet up?’ No, it bloody well isn’t,” Judi insisted, adding that she wants to “banish” the words “retire,” “vintage,” and “old.”
“I want to be like Newton Blick, who died in his dressing room after a performance,” Judi said. “I want to be one of those women who throw themselves out of planes when they’re 100.”
If you didn’t see, Judi recently shared her honest, unfiltered thoughts on her 2019 critically panned movie Cats.
