There’s some major cast changes coming to Law & Order for season 26.

On Wednesday (July 22), Deadline reported that Reid Scott, who has played Senior Detective Vincent Riley for the past three seasons, is leaving the NBC legal drama.

Reid Scott exits "Law & Order"

Reid‘s departure is said to be his decision related to the strain caused by his cross-country commute for nine months out of the year. He and his family are based in California while Law & Order films in New York City.

Det. Riley will be getting a proper ending as Reid is already back on set filming a few episodes to wrap his character’s arc.

James Badge Dale joins "Law & Order"

With Reid leaving the show, James Badge Dale has joined the cast for the new season. He will be replacing Det. Riley as a new Senior Detective, though more character details are being kept under wraps.

This won’t be James‘ first time appearing in the Dick Wolf-created universe. He previously had a one episode stint on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2002.

As of right now, the exact timeline for Reid‘s exact and James‘ debut hasn’t been revealed.

Season 26 of Law & Order premieres on Thursday, October 8 pm at 10pm ET on NBC. Check out NBC’s full fall premiere schedule here.
