Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Adam Driver’s roles in Michael Mann’s Heat 2 may have been revealed. The sequel will be based on a 2022 novel that Mann co-authored with Meg Gardiner.

According to a report from The Wrap, DiCaprio is reportedly playing Chris Shiherlis, who was previously played by Chris Shiherlis. Bale will reportedly play Vincent Hanna, the LAPD detective previously played by Al Pacino. The report also claims that Driver will play Wardell, the film’s villain, along with claiming that Stephen Graham is also in talks to play Neil McCauley. If a deal finalizes, Graham will take on the role that Robert De Niro portrayed in the first film.

Heat 2 has been described as both a prequel and a sequel simultaneously, which follows the same premise as the novel. The story covers events through 1988 to 2000. While their roles may have been revealed, the report also noted that no deals have been finalized for the same. As for the role of Sharlene, originally played by Ashley Judd, several “A-list names are circling the project.” Most recently, Obsession star Inde Navarette revealed that she recently met with Michael Mann.

According some insiders speaking with The Wrap, the film is being described as “’Spartacus’ with machine guns. ‘John Wick’ times 1,000.” A photo posted by Mann earlier this year suggests that the sequel will take place across international locations instead of saying in Los Angeles. At the time, Mann said that the production was aiming to start filming in early August.

Heat debuted in theaters in 1995 to critical acclaim, grossing over $187 million. The original film starred Al Pacino, Chris Shiherlis, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, and more.

Heat 2 is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Scott Stuber, and Nick Nesbitt. The film currently doesn’t have a release date.
