Apple TV has unveiled the disturbing first trailer for its upcoming sci-fi cyberpunk series Neuromancer. The show is an adaptation of William Gibson’s 1984 book of the same name.

What the first Neuromancer trailer reveals about Apple TV’s adaptation

The very first Neuromancer trailer is a 22-second clip that underscores the series’ unusual tone. It also seems to indicate how faithful an adaptation the show will be. The footage has no dialogue. Instead, viewers see someone turning on an old-school TV with knobs on the front. Amid the sound of the churning of old machinery, the phrase “ASHPOOL 1” flashes on the predominantly black screen.

Subsequently, the iconic opening line of the source material appears on the TV screen, reading, “The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.” The screen then dissolves into static, and the clip ends.

Meanwhile, Apple TV’s caption for the clip reads, “42 years ago, William Gibson introduced the world to Neuromancer. Now, the next chapter is loading.”

Neuromancer is one of the cornerstones of the science fiction genre and has a huge fanbase. It is also the product of its time, with Gibson envisioning the future from his vantage point in 1984. That can potentially be limiting for writers attempting to adapt the show in 2026. However, based on the brief footage, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Graham Roland and J. D. Dillard are serving as creators on Apple TV’s Neuromancer adaptation. Its cast includes Callum Turner as Case, Briana Middleton as Molly, Joseph Lee as Hideo, Mark Strong as Armitage, Peter Sarsgaard as John Ashpool, and Emma Laird as Linda Lee.

Further, a log line for the series reads, “A hacker and an assassin are thrust into a web of high-stakes crime as they take aim at a corporate dynasty.” The show currently doesn’t have a release date.
