The Pokémon Company International and Aardman Animation revealed key art for their upcoming stop-motion project at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The collaboration, titled Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, will release in 2027. Aardman, the studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run, is producing the series.

Phil Rynda, Director of Original Animation at The Pokémon Company International, joined Sarah Cox, Chief Creative Director at Aardman, during the festival panel. The pair showcased never-before-seen footage from the pilot and in-development production materials. They also gave attendees an early look at Sirfetch’d and Pichu in action.

The announcement confirmed the brand-new adventure will take place in the Galar region from the Pokémon universe. An official synopsis describes the series as “an epic journey through the wilds of Galar.” The two main characters will “embark on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region.”

According to the synopsis, the duo’s “missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown.” The story promises “peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs” for the pair. The stop-motion format marks a fresh creative direction for the franchise.

Rynda also expressed excitement about the collaboration during the panel. Additionally, he highlighted how thrilling it is to work alongside the talent at Aardman. He further noted the studio shares the same dedication and commitment to producing quality animation as The Pokémon Company International. As a result, fans can expect Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu to arrive sometime in 2027.
