Fans can soon experience a new chapter in Andy Weir‘s Project Hail Mary. It is a mixed-reality adventure game in which players can play as Ryland Grace and interact with Rocky. The game features the original voice actor for the Eridian, James Ortiz.

The official synopsis reads, “Ryland Grace and his friend and crewmate Rocky must work together in the face of disaster to keep the Hail Mary intact and bring their world-saving cargo to Eridani — Rocky’s home planet and Grace’s new home.”

In a statement about reprising his role as Rocky and the game, Ortiz said, “Playing Rocky again for the game has been really special. Fans will be able to step inside the world of Project Hail Mary, interact with Rocky using the same character model from the film, and experience a completely new part of his journey with Grace. It is as close as you can get to the cinematic experience, but this time you are inside it.”

What players will actually do aboard the Hail Mary

As shown in the trailer, the game allows players to take on the role of Ryland Grace and captain Project Hail Mary alongside Rocky. Using a VR headset, gamers must interact with objects aboard the Hail Mary to diagnose problems. They must also improvise solutions and push the limits of science and engineering to keep the mission alive.

Moreover, gamers must manage the ship and cargo as they travel through space. This all-new story for Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is written by Andy Weir specifically for the game.

Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is set to launch globally this autumn; however, no official date has been provided yet. The game will be available on PICO, Android XR, and Meta Quest 3/3S. That said, those interested can add the game to their wishlist on the official website.
