RHOC star Jeana Keough faces health complications as she undergoes treatment for tongue cancer. Her diagnosis was announced on July 19 by her two children, Kara and Shane. While Kara shared details about her mother’s medical procedures and condition, she also revealed a few days later that a DVT had been found in her leg. This has delayed a procedure intended to provide her with nutrition, as it could pose a risk.

Jeana Keough is undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy

On July 19, Keough’s children, Kara and Shane, announced that their mother was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. At the time, Kara revealed that her mother currently stands at one of the most “painful” and “vulnerable” seasons of her life. She said that Keough has undergone a total of two surgeries as of now. Specifically, she mentioned that the cancerous lymph nodes were removed during the second procedure. After that, she started chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy.

According to Kara, Keough suffers from severe pain in her tongue and throat that has made her struggle to speak, eat, and drink. Therefore, she isn’t able to take in the nutrients required for the body and is seemingly appearing malnourished. She said, “Every day is a battle just to get enough nutrition and hydration to continue treatment.” Additionally, she also set up a GoFundMe to support her mother’s treatment.

A few days after this announcement, Kara shared that Keough was supposed to get a gastrostomy tube (G-tube) for her body to get the required nutrition, as she hadn’t eaten a meal for two weeks. She said that the G-tube procedure, plus chemotherapy and radiation, was paused as a DVT and an infection were found in Keough’s leg. “The feeding tube can’t be put directly into her stomach until there’s clarity on the infection,” she wrote. She also asked people to pray for her mother so that she could at least immediately get the G-Tube that resolves her nutritional issues.

Recently, Kara also shared a brief update on Keough’s health. “The tongue and throat pain, paired with the mucus from radiation on the area, is just brutal. Poor mama has to spit into tissues all day,” she wrote on an Instagram story (via PEOPLE).
