ComingSoon can exclusively announce that Roads of Fire, a new documentary about forced migration, will premiere at the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Roads of Fire comes from filmmaker Nathaniel Lezra. The movie will hold its world premiere on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the SBIFF Film Center as part of the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Additional screenings will be held on Thursday, February 13, at 2 p.m. at Auditorium #4 and Friday, February 14, at noon at the Riviera Theater.

What is Roads of Fire about?

“Roads of Fire delves into the harrowing realities of forced migration by intertwining three compelling narratives: a human smuggler navigating refugees through the treacherous Darién Gap, an asylum seeker’s journey in New York City, and the unwavering efforts of volunteers on the frontlines of this humanitarian emergency,” a description of the documentary reads. “The film offers an unflinching look at the complexities of migration, highlighting the courage and resilience of individuals caught in extraordinary circumstances. Through deeply personal accounts, Roads of Fire sheds light on the interconnected struggles and hopes of those navigating one of the greatest humanitarian crises of our time.”

Lezra said in a statement, “Roads of Fire is equal measures an examination of the human cost of our divisive political discourse, and of the indomitable spirit of people of all walks of life who are experiencing the circumstances that lead to global migration. This documentary seeks to bring new, intimate, and compassionate light to those stories and voices that are so quickly ignored or silenced in the current political landscape. I am honored to share them at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.”
