ICYMI, Selena Gomez is in her red manicure era. The star has been obsessed with shades of scarlet lately; she's been particularly devoted to a bright, almost-neon red, though her latest set leans more trendy black cherry than retro Maraschino cherry. And the best part? You don't have to spend movie star-money to get the look. Gomez's exact polish costs less than $15!

Gomez has been busy promoting her new album I Said I Love You First with fiancé Benny Blanco, hopping from late-night shows to daytime talk shows to radio appearances. Her nails have been along for the ride, thanks to her manicurist Tom Bachik, and it seems like they're going for a red theme. (It is the color of love, so the palette makes a lot of sense.) For the “bordeaux bombshell” set she wore for a recent Sirius XM appearance, Bachik reached for Essie's Gel Couture Longwear Nail Polish in the shade Spiked with Style, which the brand describes as an “edgy, deep blood red.”

Unlike the long, vampy '80s stilettos she wore for the “Sunset Blvd” music video, Gomez and Bachik landed on a slightly shorter nail with a rounded almond shape. The color looked great with her casual outfit of jeans and a black jacket, but would look just as good with a sparkly Oscars-style gown too.

The black cherry nail trend shows approximately zero signs of slowing down in 2025, even though it's basically the antithesis of a traditional spring nail color. Pinterest included the color in its 2025 trend report, saying that it would show up in our beauty routines and our closets, and the proof is in the pudding (er, glam routine?): Jenna Ortega recently added a black cherry tone to her dark hair and wore the same color on her nails for a red carpet event. Gomez was an early adopter of the trend, wearing a a matchy-matchy lip and nail to the 2024 Golden Globes. If you're not quite ready to let go of those dark, moody winter shades, black cherry might just be the perfect “baby steps” shade for spring.
