All hope is not lost on a potential second season of a canceled Star Wars show. The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland has recently said she’d still be interested in returning to make more of the Disney+ series despite mixed reactions to the first season.

The Acolyte, also known as Star Wars: The Acolyte, premiered on Disney+ in June 2024. Some critics liked the series, while others did not; fans, on the other hand, were especially divided on the show. Some went straight to review bombing the series for pointless and uninformed reasons, though there were also complaints regarding how the show handled its characters, the Jedi, and more. 

The Acolyte was canceled in August 2024 after the show reportedly had viewership numbers that were too low and a budget that was too high.

What did Leslye Headland say about a potential second season of Star Wars’ The Acolyte?

Speaking with Empire Magazine, via Fantha Tracks, Headland said she would “absolutely” still make The Acolyte Season 2 if Lucasfilm wanted it to happen.

“I would still want to do it! Absolutely,” Headland commented. “As more people discover it, I think people may want to see some form of the story come back…We did have a lot of stuff that we wanted to explore — including tying in lore to the sequels. Getting into who exactly Manny [Jacinto]’s character is, his connection with [Jedi Master] Vernestra, his connection with [Sith Lord] Plagueis, and then his connection with other sequel-established things.”

At this time, Lucasfilm has not formally announced plans to continue The Acolyte. The first season can currently be streamed on Disney+.
The show’s synopsis reads, “A hundred years before the rise of the Empire, the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic have prospered for centuries without war. During this time, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a Jedi Master against a dangerous warrior from his past.”
