Two Steven Spielberg films are making waves on streaming nearly 50 years after their debut. The classic thrillers are outperforming Spielberg’s newest sci-fi release, Disclosure Day, which continues to struggle both critically and commercially.

According to Flix Patrol, Peacock’s U.S. Top 10 currently places Jaws at No. 2, behind Strung, while Jaws 2 is at No. 7. It’s another reminder of the franchise’s lasting popularity, with audiences returning to the shark-filled blockbuster decades after its original theatrical release.

Steven Spielberg’s Jaws tells the story of a seaside town thrown into panic after a great white shark begins attacking swimmers. To stop it, Police Chief Martin Brody teams up with marine expert Matt Hooper and veteran shark hunter Quint for a dangerous hunt at sea. The classic stars Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw, and Lorraine Gary. The sequel, Jaws 2, directed by Jeannot Szwarc, sees Scheider return as Brody when another killer shark puts the people of Amity Island in danger once again.

The first two films remain the franchise’s biggest success stories. Jaws holds a 97% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a strong 8.1 rating on IMDb. Jaws 2 earned a more modest reception with a 56% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 5.8 IMDb rating. The later sequels failed to match the original’s acclaim, with Jaws 3-D holding a 10% Rotten Tomatoes score and Jaws: The Revenge sitting at 2%, while both also received much lower IMDb ratings.

The streaming comeback comes as Spielberg’s latest sci-fi film, Disclosure Day, struggles to find similar momentum. Made on a reported $115 million budget, the movie has grossed about $216 million worldwide. It has also received a mixed response from audiences, reflected in its IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes scores. On Rotten Tomatoes, Disclosure Day holds a critics’ rating of 80%. IMDb users have awarded it a decent 6.7 score.
