Taylor Swift is lending a hand to a mother of three whose decision to help strangers left her facing a difficult recovery.

The 36-year-old singer donated $50,000 to a GoFundMe supporting Connecticut resident Ashley Taunton and her family. Taylor also included a personal message with her contribution, People confirms.

“Wish you the best recovery possible and sending love to your family!” she wrote, signing the note simply as “Taylor.”

Why the recovery fundraiser was created

Ashley, 42, was traveling on I-95 South in Rhode Island during a rainstorm in July with her youngest daughter when she noticed three teenagers seeking help following an accident.

She pulled over to assist them. While Ashley was outside her vehicle, another car lost control on the wet road and hydroplaned into them. She reportedly pushed one of the teenagers out of danger before being struck herself.

Ashley later learned that the teen she helped was the son of one of her longtime friends.

Family friend Laura Ortelt created the fundraiser on behalf of Ashley‘s husband, Joe Taunton. The donations are intended to ease some of the family’s financial pressure while Ashley continues recovering.

According to the campaign, contributions will assist with household expenses, meals and groceries, transportation related to hospital visits, and medical costs not covered by insurance.

Taylor‘s contribution quickly became the fundraiser’s largest individual donation. Her supportive note also drew additional attention to Ashley‘s story and the family’s continued needs.

Ashley responds to Taylor’s donation

Ashley was overcome with emotion thanks to Taylor‘s donation. She posted several different Instagram Stories about the news, including one of her initial reaction.

“How is this even real. Thank you, I’m speechless and @Taylor Swift you are an amazing human,” she wrote one one.

Later, she followed up with another sincere message, saying, “Sobbing with so much gratitude! Wish I could hug you IRL what a beautiful human you are! God bless you!”
