Get ready to brave the wind and set sail on an incredible adventure aboard a magical Drakkar, guided by Odin’s ravens and the winds of Fate: Viking Route, a cooperative game with an ingenious compass-and-magnets movement mechanic, started to hit the stores August 24th.
Developed by DAM Things and produced by Ares Games, the game was successfully funded on Kickstarter, and is now releasing to retail, as the KS fulfillment is completed.
In Viking Route, 1 to 4 players guide a Viking crew through mythic lands, sailing a Longship. Influenced by magical Ravens, sent by Odin to steer your course, and by the winds of Fate, the heroes will face powerful and monstrous creatures out of the Norse Mythos, fulfilling challenging quests, and preparing for the decisive battle to avert Ragnarök.
The game is suitable for everyone: its endearing art style, strong aesthetics, and fantastical setting make it enjoyable for families, but its strategic nature and adjustable difficulty levels will challenge even the more experienced players.
Designed by Martino Chiacchiera, Luca Maragno and Guido Albini, Viking Route is played on a beautiful 3D Viking ship and a scenario board, where the Drakkar is represented by a compass. Multiple magnets (the Ravens and Wind) are manipulated by the players to steer the course of their ship.
The game can be played as a 4-Scenario Campaign, plus the final epic battle against Loki, or in Ragnarök mode, a stand-alone special scenario suitable for a single gaming session. Each scenario has its own specific setting and game board, a powerful enemy, and unique victory and defeat conditions. From one to four, the scenarios present increasing complexity and guide the group of players through the story of the game.
The standard version includes the 3D Drakkar, 2 sails, a compass, 4 magnetic miniatures (3 ravens and the Wind), 4 heroes and 8 enemies standees, Hero and Enemy sheets, 2 game boards (double-sided), 43 cards, Fate and Help of the Gods boards, and over 80 counters, markers and tokens.
A limited quantity of the Jarl Edition, with the Kickstarter Stretch Goals, is also releasing to retail, including exclusive content not available in the normal version of the game: 5 Viking miniatures, 1 additional Viking hero, 2 new scenarios in the lands of Frost and Fire Giants, a custom compass, a log journal to keep track of your campaigns, and additional upgrades for the Drakkar.
