Ready Player One to stream on Netflix in November

Steven Spielberg’s visually stunning sci-fi film will soon be a part of Netflix’s ever-expanding streaming catalog. The 2018 film is based on Ernest Cline’s bestselling novel. It features Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke in lead roles, alongside Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, and T.J. Miller.

As per What’s on Netflix, Ready Player One will arrive on the streaming platform, starting November 1, 2025.

Set in a dystopian 2045, the story follows Wade Watts. The young man escapes his grim reality through the OASIS, a massive virtual reality created by eccentric genius James Halliday. Upon Halliday’s death, users of the OASIS are challenged to find a hidden Easter egg. The winner will be granted his fortune as well as control over the digital world. As Wade and his friends navigate the high-stakes competition, they soon uncover unexpected dangers.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Ready Player One maintains a 71 percent Tomatometer rating, based on 442 reviews. However, the critics remain divided over the film.

K. Austin Collins wrote for The Ringer, “Ready Player One is two and a half hours of watching kids be obsessed with the cult of a dead tech genius — like everyone who owns Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs. They’re obsessed with the culture of nostalgia, too, and again, they aren’t alone. There’s a glimmer of insight in all of that.”

Collins concluded with, “Ready Player One may be a movie about the future, but it is damningly a product of our present.” Upon its theatrical release on March 29, 2018, Steven Spielberg’s directorial earned commercial success. It earned $607 million worldwide against a production budget of approximately $175 million. (via Box Office Mojo)
