Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayIf Katseye fans—known as Eyekons—go wild when just one member posts a casual selfie on Instagram, you can imagine the reaction when all five girls grace the June cover of Allure: Total mania. In the beauty-centric photoshoot, Sophia Laforteza, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeungn wore polka-dotted lip art and posed alongside huge beauty product props, but it’s Daniela's bleached brows eliciting the biggest response. Eyekons are divided over whether they love or hate the bold makeup decision from the 21-year-old singer. “Daniela looking stunning with no eyebrows,” one user commented under an Instagram post debuting the cover. “Love a blonde moment,” wrote another fan. Others, however, begged her to “go back to your natural brows.” “I thought she had no eyebrows for a sec. The bleached eyebrows really blend with her skin,” another user wrote.

In true Katseye frenzy, there’s even an entire Reddit thread dedicated to discussing the group’s beauty looks from the shoot. The thread starts with Eyekons fawning over the girls and admiring the “cool” hair and makeup looks, before one fan also inquires about the bleached brows worn by Daniela, Megan, and Lara. Part of the confusion stems from the fact that Daniela’s brows are not bleached in every image. “Is it concealer over them [eyebrows] in the perfume pic? I wonder if that inspired the full bleach?” the fan adds.

Well, allow us to answer those burning brow questions for you. Alexandra French, the makeup artist behind Katseye’s Allure cover glam (as well as Maddy in the last season of Euphoria), shares that she did, in fact, bleach Daniela, Megan, and Lara’s brows.

“I liked this idea of a smoky eye, from the early 2000s,” says French, who adds that she had already done a makeup look where each Katseye member was very recognizable in their everyday glam. “So I thought, why don’t we bleach their brows? I felt that it was very editorial and presents them in a way we’ve never seen them before,” she explains. “When I do makeup on people for such a big cover and a big moment, I want it to be shocking.”

French says Yoonchae and Sophia were cautious and politely declined the bold brow transformation, but Daniela, Lara, and Megan were game. French used the L’Oréal Quick Blue Bleach, which she keeps in her kit for moments like this. “I used volume 20 and kept it on the brows for 12 minutes,” says French, who adds that she then toned the brows with IGK Purple Toning Drops to remove any brassiness.
“[All three of them] ended up keeping them bleached [after the shoot] because they loved the look so much,” says French, who did send the girls home with a “kit” to dye their brows back. The most important product? Just For Men Beard Dye, a common trick makeup artists use to dye models’ brows back after bleaching them for runway shows and photoshoots.
Bleached brows have become somewhat of a signature for French, who says she first bleached her own brows in 2020 and kept them for a few years. “Anytime I’d be on set, and they [talent] would see my brows, they would ask me to bleach theirs too,” she says, mentioning that she’s also bleached Alix Earle’s brows for a cover shoot. “I think it’s cool and everyone should do it at least once.”
