The recent episode has led fans to think that Jason Morgan is leaving the mob on General Hospital. Even if Jason has made his decision, it remains to be seen whether he can stand by it or let Sonny change his mind.

On the Friday, July 31 episode, Jason tells Sonny that he can’t work for him anymore. Earlier, in a conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Head Writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten did share a surprising change in Jason’s arc, following his imprisonment and how it could impact those closely associated with him.

They said, “Jason returns from abroad a changed man. His imprisonment has had a profound effect on his outlook and how he intends to conduct the rest of his life. His decision will have big implications for Danny, Britt, the Quartermaines, Anna, and especially Sonny.” During a conversation on That’s Awesome podcast, Burton also revealed that the show plans to shift “directions [with] everything that has to kind of do with Jason and his world.”

Burton’s Jason returned to Port Charles in mid-July after the actor was on a brief hiatus since March 2026. He cited the reason for the break as wanting to spend more time with the family. Now that Jason is back, his character appears to be heading in a completely new direction.

After coming back from prison, he immediately went to see Danny, a complaint many viewers had that previously he often neglected his child, prioritising Sonny’s work instead. He took Danny on a ride and attempted to make things right before going to Port Charles to reveal to Sonny, Carly, and Britt that he was out of prison.
