New seasons of X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man to release every year
Winderbaum stated during a new interview with DiscussingFilm that Marvel intends to release new seasons of its animated shows annually. When asked what strategy fans can expect going forward on the animation side, the executive responded, “What’s exciting about the next few years is that we are going to get subsequent seasons of X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on an annual cadence.”

• New seasons of ‘X-Men 97’ and ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ will be released annually
• Potential for more seasons of ‘Marvel Zombies’ if enough people watch pic.twitter.com/qGXwHBTnFj
Winderbaum elaborated, “So, every year, there will be a new season, and we can map out a longer arc to those stories.”
Given that the third seasons of both shows are currently in development, this means that they can come out in 2027. Winderbaum’s comment also indicates that these shows can go on beyond Season 3. This isn’t the first time Winderbaum has spoken about the annual release plans. He told Collider in February 2025 that X-Men ‘97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man were “the top priorities in trying to get to a place where we can reliably have very strong seasons every year.”
In the same interview with DiscussingFilm, Winderbaum reflected on how Marvel Zombies, the studio’s latest release, fits into the above-mentioned release strategy. He replied, “A single standalone epic adventure that Bryan [Andrews] and I want to make more of. I mean, this lore is like very rich, and there are stories that we talk about all the time. We know where they are, and they just didn’t align with this particular story.”
Winderbaum proceeded to promise that if the show draws enough viewership, more seasons will likely happen.
