Zack Snyder announced The Last Photograph will world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. The director shared a video message confirming the surprise screening. TIFF also posted the announcement on X, revealing the screening for September 13 at 6:30 PM.

Snyder explained his reason for choosing the festival in a video message. “TIFF has the best audiences. They have the best screens,” Snyder said. He added, “It’s a group of people that love cinema. They love the big screen experience.” Snyder also revealed he shot the film with the Airy 265 medium format camera. “We shot this movie with the Airy 265, medium format, meant for the big screen,” he said.

The screening will take place at the John Bassett Theatre in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. This venue hosts TIFF’s inaugural official content market. The film currently has no distribution deal and will pursue buyers at the festival.

The Last Photograph follows retired DEA agent Ethan Black, played by Stuart Martin. He travels to South America seeking his missing nephew and niece after his brother’s murder. Fra Fee co-stars as Joe Wallace, a drug-addicted conflict photographer who witnessed the kidnapping.

Snyder previously told Deadline the project holds deep personal significance. “The Last Photograph is a meditation of life and death,” Snyder said. He described it as “embodying some of the trials that I have experienced in my own life.” Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Gianni Nunnari produced the film. Filming took place in Colombia, Iceland, and Los Angeles. Kurt Johnstad co-wrote the script based on Snyder’s original story.
