Chelsea Handler is speaking out in response to comedian Salma Hindy‘s claims of being fired from the star’s stand-up tour over pro-Palestine remarks that she made.

Salma took to social media this week to share her story, claiming that her relationship with Chelsea changed after she privately asked the comedian about her stance on Palestine. She says that Chelsea later shared a “disgustingly Islamophobic and dehumanizing video,” which led to Salma deciding to post a pro-Palestinian message on her page.

Salma says her next shows with Chelsea were canceled and she claims there were issues with reimbursement for travel costs.

“My manager, who was Jewish, at the time told me that Chelsea Handler is trying to get rid of me because of the Palestine thing, but she doesn’t want to say it so that she doesn’t incriminate herself. He told me I could go on the rest of the tour with her, but that she would never work with me ever again,” she alleged.

Chelsea left a comment on the Instagram post.

“Ah, that’s actually not what happened,” she said. “You quit opening for me, and I have the emails from your agents. Your agent is full of it. I would never fire someone for disagreeing with me politically on this issue.”

“And I never fired her. Period. Not on this issue,” she added.

Chelsea shared a screenshot of a text message from Salma, who appeared to quit. Salma wrote, “Chelsea, something has now come up and I won’t be able to do the remaining four shows anymore [sad face]. Wanted you to hear it from me. Thank you for everything. It’s been such an experience, and you’re right it would’ve been wonderful stage time [heart].”

Chelsea also shared screenshots of emails from years ago in which she agreed to pay for Salma‘s travel costs because of a change in the scheduling.

Salma Hindy claims Chelsea Handler plans on taking legal action

Salma later wrote on Instagram Stories, “Chelsea has now privately told me she contacted her lawyers and considers my account libelous. I am not initiating legal action. I’m seeking advice to protect myself. If you’re an attorney experienced in defamation, media/First Amendment law, or Palestine-related retaliation who can consult or assist pro bono, please contact me privately.”
