Linda Cardellini as Pam Voorhees Peacock

Crystal Lake showrunner Brad Caleb Kane is setting the record straight about claims that his Friday the 13th prequel was censored.

The writer and executive producer took to Instagram on Wednesday (October 21) to clarify comments he made about nudity in the Peacock horror series, which stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees.

In a new statement, Brad insisted that neither Peacock nor A24, which produces the series, ever instructed him to remove nudity from the show.

His response comes after remarks from a recent interview were interpreted as suggesting he had been overruled on the subject.

What Did Brad Caleb Kane Say About the Crystal Lake Censorship Claims?

“In the interest of setting the record straight,” Brad began his statement on his Instagram account.

He denied that anyone at Peacock, A24 or the production had instructed him not to include nudity in the series.

“There IS in fact some nudity in the show,” he added.

The showrunner explained that his earlier remarks were intended as an offhand joke, not a serious allegation of studio interference.

“This was an offhand comment, made with a smirk and a shrug, which got conflated into ‘Brad was censored,'” he wrote.

“Couldn’t be further from the truth.”

He concluded by saying he was returning to celebrating the series.

Where Did the Crystal Lake Censorship Claims Come From?

The clarification follows an October 17 interview with TheWrap, which examined changes to the Friday the 13th mythology in the new series.

During the conversation, Brad was asked about the relatively limited nudity in Crystal Lake compared with some of the original horror movies.

“I tried. That’s America,” he told the outlet, before joking about the differing attitudes toward violence and sexual content on television, adding: ” Sometimes you get overruled in these things.”

Those comments led to the impression that someone involved in making Crystal Lake had restricted what he could include.

However, Brad now says that interpretation is incorrect and specifically denies receiving any such instructions from Peacock, A24 or anyone involved in production.

Where Can You Watch Crystal Lake?

All eight episodes of Crystal Lake premiered on Peacock on October 15 and are available to stream now.

The prequel explores the early history of Camp Crystal Lake and Pamela Voorhees before the events of the original Friday the 13th movie.

The series also stars Callum Vinson, Hamish Linklater, William Catlett, Devin Kessler and Cameron Scoggins.

A second season has not yet been officially announced, although Brad has already discussed his plans for continuing the story.

Find out what Brad Caleb Kane has revealed about a possible Crystal Lake Season 2 and a familiar Friday the 13th family.
