On the hit ABC show on October 6, judge Carrie Ann Inaba criticized Val‘s wife, pro Jenna Johnson, and her celeb partner Harry Shum, Jr. for their dance containing a lift. Carrie Ann said the lift was against the rules for the dance.

Val then posted a message, “You almost saw Fresh Prince enter the ballroom last night.” Many took this as a reference to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.

Fans immediately became upset at the idea of a violent altercation. Val did issue an apology, but was ultimately suspended due to this post. Fellow pro Alan Bersten stepped to dance with Jenna Dewan, Val‘s partner, for Dedication Night on Tuesday (October 20).

Val took to Val and Jenna‘s joint Instagram post to issue a one word reaction: “Perfection,” he wrote.

Val also left a comment on Alan‘s Instagram to thank him.

He posted, “Thank you for stepping in and doing such an amazing job. Jenna looks so good and most importantly happy. You’re my new favorite follow.”
