Sean Penn‘s Asphalt City is finally making its way to Netflix, giving the crime thriller a new streaming home next month. Co-starring X-Men actor Tye Sheridan, the film will be available to a wider audience when it joins the platform. According to a new report, the film has been added to Netflix’s upcoming streaming lineup.

Asphalt City to stream on Netflix next month

Netflix is adding Sean Penn’s forgotten thriller featuring an X-Men star next month. According to What’s on Netflix, Asphalt City will join the platform’s catalog on August 3, 2026.

Helmed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, Asphalt City brings Shannon Burke’s 2008 novel Black Flies to the screen. Released theatrically on March 29, 2024, the film follows two New York City paramedics working the overnight shift.

The story revolves around Ollie Cross, a newly assigned paramedic who begins working alongside experienced medic Gene Rutkovsky. As they respond to emergency calls across the city, Cross is introduced to the unpredictable nature of the job, where every call presents a different challenge. As Cross adapts to the demands of the job, his partnership with Rutkovsky continues to evolve. At the same time, each emergency forces him to confront difficult decisions while trying to save lives.

The film stars Tye Sheridan as Ollie Cross and Sean Penn as Gene Rutkovsky. Other cast members include Michael Pitt as Lafontaine, Mike Tyson as Chief Burroughs, Gbenga Akinnagbe as Verdis, Raquel Nave as Clara, and more.

The film received a lukewarm response following its release. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 45 percent critics’ score based on 53 reviews. Meanwhile, the audience score stands at 55 percent. Natalia Winkelman of The New York Times reported, “[The main characters’] dynamic is familiar at best and dull at worst, particularly for those who long ago tired of the tragedies of toxic machismo.”
